We are so lucky to be based in such beautiful North West Leicestershire countryside at Wagtail Bike Hire, so we've curated some rides which can be started at, or very near, our Diseworth base.

Cloud Trail to Willington

This gentle bike ride takes you along the wonderful and well known Cloud Trail, before you join the picturesque tow path of the Trent & Mersey Canal.

After just less than 15 miles, you'll reach The Dragon pub in Willington - a great spot for a delicious pint or a bite to eat - before you can turn around and head back to base. 

Swans, narrow boats, and a general sense of waterside calm are features of this classic ride, which manages to avoid roads 100% of the time!

By adding a couple of additional kilometres, this route route can start from Wagtail's base near Diseworth, or we can deliver your bikes to you in Worthington, at the start of the Cloud Trail. The choice is yours!

Calke Abbey tramway trail

Starting in Breedon-on-the-Hill, we'll deliver your bikes to you, before you cross the border into Derbyshire heading on to the beautiful Calke Abbey Estate, just six miles from Wagtail.

Enjoy the miles of private National Trust trails within the Abbey's parkland, take a tour around the Abbey itself and visit their tea rooms.

Feeling peckish? You can venture up to Ticknall, where you'll find the brilliant Staff of Life pub, or stop off at the Tollgate Brewery for a pizza and a pint.

And you can add in a loop of Foremark Reservoir and/or Robin Woods if you want to go further and see even more of our beautiful countryside - see our next ride below!

Foremark Reservoir and Robin Wood

This glorious cycle route starts and ends in the pretty village of Ticknall, weaving through the beautiful South Derbyshire countryside. 

From ageless country lanes, to the beauty of Foremark Reservoir, you'll head on to quick woodland trails in Robin Wood to see how fast you - and your bike - can travel.

Ticknall itself is the perfect spot for mid-ride refreshments, while the many miles of trails on Calke Abbey's National Trust estate are never far away.

Worthington to Grace Dieu

This bike ride takes you down quiet country roads through historic farmland to the charming village of Osgathorpe.

From there, you'll cycle through the village, past the ancient remains of 13th Century Grace Dieu Abbey and into the expanse of the Grace Dieu and Cademan Woods with their miles of epic bike trails. 

You can grab lunch at The George and Dragon or the Bull's Head before you venture back to Osgathorpe, or you could extend your visit by heading down the Cloud Trail to the peaceful Trent and Mersey Canal.

The Cloud Trail car park is just 3 miles from Wagtail, so you can either pick your bikes up from us, or we'll drop them off for you.

Wagtail Way - The Scenic Route

This 42km cycle route takes in the very best of what South Derbyshire and North West Leicestershire have to offer.

You'll pick up your bike at our Wagtail Bike Hire base in Diseworth, North West Leicestershire, before heading off to experience Grace Dieu Wood.

You'll then go on to Staunton Harold and around the reservoir to Calke Abbey, through the popular market town of Melbourne and the pretty villages of Wilson and Breedon-on-the-Hill, before making it back to Wagtail.

This mostly on-road route takes in some some off-road trails at Calke Abbey, and gives you easy access to pubs and coffee shops galore, as well as great independent shops in Melbourne and at Staunton Harold, and world class culture and heritage.

Wagtail Way - The Beast

Do you have what it takes to complete our 85km East Midlands Odyssey?

This specially-curated bike ride is designed to show the most curious cyclist everything you can possible see in a day's cycling from Wagtail.

You'll pick your bike up at our hub in Diseworth, North West Leicestershire, before pedalling off along heritage trails, scenic tow paths and quiet country lanes for 50 glorious miles.

From bustling market towns to ancient buildings, local history and much more, this route really has it all!

And your choice for stop offs is almost unlimited - from Tori & Ben's Farm Shop, The Man Within Compass Pub, The Ferrers Centre at Staunton Harold, beautiful Calke Abbey or the Bull's Head in Wilson, this day's cycle ride could turn into a week's holiday without too much trouble!

You'll cycle Grace Dieu Wood, Staunton Harold, Calke Abbey, King's Newton, the Cloud Trail, Willington, Melbourne, Wilson and Breedon-on-the-Hill, to name just. a few highlights.
